Michael A. Bignell is an award winning artist.  Born in the rural South Coast of England, he has returned to painting after a successful career as an architect.  His painting influences have included Andrew Wyeth, Richard Estes, and the renaissance painters Velasquez and Vermeer,  as well as the photographers Michiel Wijstma of the Netherlands, John van Horn of South Carolina and Rose Delaplain-Sklaroff of Maryland.

CURRENT & RECENT EVENTS:

Vaccinations in response to the pandemic have  boosted most people’s optimism.  In response to that,   many art galleries and art organization juried events, after having been curtailed, have opened their doors again to in-person exhibits.  Because of its popularity, a movement to hold some juried events and exhibitions online continues as well.  This is a world-wide response and has opened up opportunities for most artists to exhibit their work to a much larger audience.

Michael has taken advantage of this and is active with entries in different countries and locales.

CATALINAS IN ANNAPOLIS

This painting shows the iconic Annapolis skyline in the background, including the dome of the Naval Academy Chapel; the Catalina sailboats are at the pier across from the Annapolis Yachtclub.

REFLECTIONS IN HISTORIC CHESTER: a City in the north of England, it was protected by a high wall during the Roman occupation.  The inner city is very compressed and an interesting mix of styles of architecture.
